Mangere, Auckland

CLIENT:

Hawkins

LOCATION:

Mangere, Auckland

PROJECT VALUE:

Carpentry Works: (TBC upon project completion)

Description & Scope of Work

The Auckland Airport east terminal expansion is a key component of the Airport’s development programme which aims to build capacity for an increasing demand for international and domestic travel. The main contractor for the project, Hawkins, has engaged Livefirm to deliver high-quality carpentry work for this critical project.

The project involves constructing a three-storey building that will link the international terminal to the currently under construction domestic jet terminal. The extension will include a new baggage hall on the ground floor, future airline lounge space on the top floor, and an intermediate level designed to facilitate seamless passenger movement between international and domestic flights. Once completed, the terminal extension is expected to enhance the comfort and experience of 18.5 million annual passengers, meeting the expectations of travellers, airlines, and the wider New Zealand community.

Special Features of Our Work

Livefirm’s carpentry work is being strategically executed in and above a live airport environment, ensuring uninterrupted airport operations. All activities adhere strictly to Civil Aviation Authority protocols and procedures to minimise disruptions to passenger flow and airport services.

Challenges

The project’s live airport setting presents logistical complexities, requiring meticulous planning to meet safety and operational requirements. Working under heightened security conditions, the team manages controlled access, continuous monitoring of personnel and materials, and stringent noise control measures to maintain a comfortable environment for passengers and staff.

Our Role in the Project

Livefirm is playing a critical role in delivering precision carpentry work that meets the airport’s sustainability, durability, safety, and aesthetic standards. Seamless stakeholder coordination continues to be a key factor in ensuring smooth execution while maintaining the highest levels of quality, safety, and efficiency. Livefirm's contributions will help create a terminal extension that enhances passenger experience and supports New Zealand’s status as a global travel hub.

"LIVEFIRM were an integral part of the success of the recently completed Engineering School for Auckland University. LIVEFIRM carried out both the concrete and carpentry packages. I would describe LIVEFIRM as a professional, user-friendly sub-contractor, with senior management both visible and actively involved with supporting their site teams. Overall a well-resourced sub-contractor who looks to continually improve especially in the Health & Safety space.”
